Gary C. Steffen, 55, of 630 27th Street N.E., died Monday, October 6, 2003, in Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa, following a heart attack while at work. Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2003, at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Ryan, by Rev. Msgr. Ralph Simington. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion and one hour prior to service time on Friday at the church. Burial: Calvary Cemetery in Ryan with military rites.
Survivors include his wife Jean; their children, Sara Drish and husband Robert of Cedar Rapids, Robert Steffen and wife Jennifer of Cedar Rapids, Timothy Steffen and wife Jill of Cedar Rapids, Teri Keenan and husband Chris of Tiffin, Pamela Selk and husband Kevin of Cedar Rapids and Kent Gooch of Cedar Rapids; his parents, Harold and Marcella Steffen of Manchester; three brothers, Carl Steffen and wife Marilee of Ryan, Dan Steffen and wife Barb of Farley, Greg Steffen and wife Mary of Manchester; four sisters, Marilyn Zieser and husband Phil of Ryan, Marcia Gager of Walker, Mary Sweet and husband Steve of West Concord, Minnesota and Margie Schneider and husband Bruce of Manchester.
Also surviving are three grandchildren, Kaya Steffen, Andy Holtz and Aaron Selk; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Rolly Gager, and his grandparents, Charles and Gunilda Steffen and Grace and Clem Singsank.
Gary was born the son of Harold and Marcella Singsank Steffen on January 5, 1948, in Dyersville. He graduated from St. Patrick?s High School in Ryan and served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. On October 27, 1984, in Cedar Rapids, he was united in marriage to Jean Gooch. Gary was employed at Wilson Foods for eighteen years and for the past fifteen years as a carpenter, currently employed by Steiner Construction, Inc.
Ryan American Legion Post 692 will conduct the military rites
