Gary Richard Roes, 68, of 3575 Marquette Street, Davenport, died Wednesday, May 23, 2007, following an extended bout of Parkinson's Disease. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2007, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport, by Father John Gallagher. Visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Burial: Davenport Memorial Park. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; his son, Dr. Matthew Roes of Cedar Rapids; a brother, David Roes of East Moline, Illinois; and his granddog, Kyle.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary was born August 23, 1938, the son of Raymond and Mary “Mae” (Foley) Roes, in Davenport, Iowa. He served with the National Guard from 1956 to 1964. On September 23, 1961, Gary was united in marriage to Carol Ann Kruse. He owned and operated Murdoch Paint Company and later with his wife, owned and operated the Windmill Donuts and Deli Restaurant in Rock Island, Illinois. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, a former vice-president of the Jaycees, an avid golfer, played in a couple's bridge club, a huge animal lover and enjoyed the riverboats.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation in memory of Gary.
