Gary Lee Redmond, 48, of Shellsburg, died Friday, March 7, 2008, in his home, following a long illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by Chaplain Jeremy Hudson. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Sunday) at the funeral home. Inurnment: Urbana Cemetery, at a later date.
Survivors include his wife Mary; his sons, Justin Redmond and William Redmond, both of Shellsburg; his mother, Milda Redmond of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Layne, Melina, Kyler and Zachary; three sisters, Nancy (Fred) Leumpert of Cedar Rapids, Peggy Redmond and special friend, Dale of Leander, Texas, and Malinda Kies of Cedar Rapids; and a brother, Larry (Barb) Farr of Anamosa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. William Redmond, Mr. & Mrs. Merle Long and Pearl Evens.
Gary was born December 20, 1959, the son of Gordon and Milda (Long) Redmond, in Anamosa, Iowa. On August 9 1980, he was united in marriage to Mary J. Donley in Urbana, Iowa. Gary worked for Raush Baking Products from 1984 to 1987.
He loved being outdoors and enjoyed fishing, going to his cabin, drinking beer and fixing his truck. But most of all, Gary loved spending time with his family and friends, especially with his grandchildren.
The family would like to give a special thanks to St. Luke’s Hospice, Peggy, Jeremy, Kim and Amy, St. Luke’s Home Care, Bobbie Jo and to all of our family and friends for their care and support.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in memory of Gary.
