Gary Lee Olson, 65, of Hiawatha, Iowa, died Sunday, October 20, 2024. A visitation will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A funeral service will follow on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Gary was born March 19, 1959, in West Union, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Anna (Ruroden) Olson. He was united in marriage to Doris Kraeutle in 2003.
Always ready to lend a helping hand, Gary was the go-to handyman in his neighborhood. He cherished time with his grandchildren, golfing, fishing, boating, and camping. Two of Gary and Doris’s recent anniversaries were made extra special, spending them with four of their grandchildren gathered together in their camper.
Gary is survived by his wife, Doris Olson of Hiawatha; his children, Jay (Dana), Kyle, Robert (Tara), and Jeremy (Shannon); his grandchildren, who affectionately called him 'Papa'— Carver, Colston, Adam, Mary, Elise, Olivia, Nora, and Freddie.
and his brother, Layton (Lynda) Olson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
