Gary Brian Northrop, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, in his home, following an accident. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at 4:30 p.m., July 2, 2008, at Oakland Nazarene Church, 3000 42nd Street N.E., Cedar Rapids, in the Fellowship Hall, lower level. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include his children, Randolph Lincoln Northrop (Brenda Parker), Solon, Nichole (Michael) Davidson, Cedar Rapids, Jorji Ann Northrop, Fort Worth, Texas, and Cynthia Loreen Northrop, Oak Point, Texas; one brother, Daryl Northrop, Indiana; 2 sisters, Audrey Muckler of Cedar Rapids and Cheryl Roberts of Cedar Rapids; and 5 grandchildren, Blake Fauconniere, Brittney Northrop, Kirstin Eilers, Brianna Eilers, and Laci Eilers. Also surviving are two step-daughters, Christine (Long) Gaynor and Stephanie (Long) Neuse.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary was born March 4, 1936, the son of Cecil Lincoln and Ellen Elizabeth (Elsner) Northrop, at home in West Union, Iowa. He graduated from Franklin High School, Cedar Rapids, in 1954. Gary first married Shelby Jean Brown on September 17, 1954. She died on August 2, 1997. He later married Alene Zuber Long. She died January 23, 1993. He was an electrician for IBEW Local 405 for 47 years WITH THE TOOLS. Gary was a lifelong avid golfer and gardener. He enjoyed spending time with the family and following his children’s activities. He enjoyed that his children have always stayed close.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the United States Golf Association in Gary’s memory.
