Gary L. Nelson, 38, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, February 21, 2010, in his home. Services: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 25, 2010, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his mother, Karen; sister, Tammy Beatty; brother, David (Renee) Nelson; niece, Jennifer Beatty; aunts and uncles.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Darwin; grandparents; and uncle, Kim Peniska.
Born May 4, 1971, in Sioux City, Iowa, Gary was the son of Darwin and Karen (Peniska) Nelson. For 20 years, Gary worked for the Cedar Rapids Gazette. He enjoyed computers, video games, movies and especially mustang cars.
A memorial fund has been established in Gary’s memory.
