Gary Joe McMains, 69, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, January 14, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Celebration of Life Service: 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where the family will greet friends from 5 p.m. until service time.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; his mother, Rosalyn McMains; sons, Jeff McMains of Blairstown, and Scott (Darcy) McMains of Elberon; granddaughters, Carley McMains, Abby and Jordynn Puckhaber; stepfamily, Doug, Dorene and Sidney Harrison of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Doug, Deborah and Grace Lowe of Ogden, Utah, and Brad, Pam, Nate, Ben and Emma Harrison of Chanhassen, Minnesota; and sister, Gail (David) Zigler of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas and their children, Kelly Zigler of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Kami (Jeremy) Anderson of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Levi (Laura) Zigler of Glenpool, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his father, E.G. McMains.
Gary was born March 27, 1947, the son of Ellsworth and Rosalyn (Sokol) McMains. On October 22, 2005, he married Linda Curry Harrison at the Salem United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Gary worked at Amana/Whirlpool for 35 years and then worked at Ferrite before retiring.
He was a member of the Country Friends Dance Club and enjoyed country music and dancing. In the last few years, not being able to dance, Gary took over the Dance Club DJ spot. He was an avid golfer and competitive card player, where he suspected others of changing the rules. Gary also enjoyed watching TV, going out to eat and traveling world wide for his job, especially vacationing in Arizona.
Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association in memory of Gary.
