Gary “Goat” D. Johnson, 62, of Manchester passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City surrounded by his family.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 25, 2013 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Manchester. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 24 and one hour prior to services on Thursday, at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home.
Gary was born February 20, 1951 in Hartley, IA, the son of Don and Marion (Fogelman) Johnson. He grew up and attended school in Sutherland, IA; working on his neighbors and uncle’s farms. Gary worked for Spencer Construction living in Spencer and the Okoboji area until moving to Manchester in 1981 where he continued construction and worked for Tredegar Industries. On May 18, 1991, Gary was united in marriage to Joyce Ann Neuhaus. Together they managed Neuhaus Properties.
Gary enjoyed riding his Harley, fishing, spending time at the Family Lake House in Okoboji , bird watching and spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Mitzi.
Gary is survived by his wife, Joyce of Manchester; his children, Ronda Johnson-Scovel of Royal, Misti (Justin) Jorgensen of Everly, Gary Stinson (Cara) of Spencer; step-children, Randy and Rachel Brooks of Manchester; 7 grandchildren, Alex and Sam Jorgensen, Hunter Stinson, Sarah Vaughn, Dakotah McGraw, and Gracee & Myka Brooks; and one great-granddaughter, Kyza; a brother, Randy (Dee-Dee) Johnson of Okoboji, his mother-in-law, Betty Neuhaus of Manchester; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and many friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Marion Johnson and his father-in-law, Ralph Neuhaus.
