Gary "Hippy? F. Dye, 55, of Delhi, formerly of Marion, died Monday, September 12, 2005 in his home following a battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 16 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home in Manchester, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call from 5- 8 p.m. on Thursday and one hour before services Friday at the Murdoch Funeral Home in Marion. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Gary "Hippy? was born May 31, 1950 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Jack and Marnell Lucille (Schnipkoweit) Dye.
He attended Polk, McKinley, Franklin and Washington schools in Cedar Rapids before graduating from Kennedy in 1968. Gary worked in maintenance and as a machinist for LeFebure in Cedar Rapids for twenty-six years. He worked for a time at Adam?s Door, Priority Express, Baumhoefener Nursery, King?s Material and Acro Manufacturing, all of Cedar Rapids and at Henderson?s in Manchester. On August 1, 1992 Gary was united in marriage to Barbara J. Martin at the American Legion Hall in Toddville.
Gary liked watching western movies. He enjoyed boating, playing pool and darts, and bowling. Gary loved to tease the children.
Gary is survived by his wife Barbara Dye of Delhi; three children, Jason Dye of Marion, Carrie Jobe (fiancé Chad Holtz) of Dyersville and Sarah Martin of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Corbin & Olivia Jobe and Delanie Holtz; two godchildren, Justin "J.P? Schnipkoweit and Ivy Schnipkoweit; his father-in-law, John Ridder of Russelville, AR; sisters-in-law, Janet (Dan) Henderson and Trish (James) Logan, both of Delhi; three nieces, Danielle & Britney Carlson and Rachel Schmolke; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Jack & Marnell Dye; and his mother-in-law, Rose Loftsgaarden.
