Gary L. Carter, 63, of 5664 Deerwood Street S.W., Cedar Rapids, died Monday, August 28, 2006, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids by Gloria Clinton. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; his children, Vince Carter of Anamosa, Lisa (Bill) Schlabach of Marengo, Kenny (Lori) Carter of Tiffin, Billy (Sam) Carter of Elberon, Tami Jurgens and friend Gene Laton of Elberon, and Rusty Carter and Ryen Carter both of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren; and two brothers, Kenneth "Jim? (Betty) Carter of Harpers Ferry and Rex Carter of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary was born June 13, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Leonard and Ruth (Sherman) Carter. He was united in marriage to Nancy Haynes on January 19, 1979, in Cedar Rapids. He was employed by Cryovac.
Gary was a Cub fan, enjoyed mushroom hunting, an avid fisherman and NASCAR fan.
