Gary L ?Bud? Railsback, 97, of Palo, died Monday, April 2, 2007, in Rock Ridge Residential Care, Shellsburg, following a short illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. Del Bear. Burial: Palo Cemetery, Palo, Iowa. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Thursday.
Survivors include son, Clifford (Nina) Railsback of Palo and their children, Karen Banninger of Palo and Steve (Dawn) Railsback of Urbana; son, Gary H. Railsback of Marshalltown; daughter, Eleanor Flitsch of Alburnett and her children, Marvin (Shele) Flitsch of Alburnett, Melvin (friend Carolyn) Flitsch of Cedar Rapids, Michael (Julia) Flitsch Central City, Mark (Julie) Flitsch of Alburnett, Matthew ?Bingo? Flitsch of Alburnett; son, Carlton (Jan) Railsback of Center Point and their children, Karri (Winston) Landers of Ft. Worth, Texas and Todd (Robyn) Railsback of Center Point; and daughter, Virginia (Andre) Berracasa and their children, Colenn Berracasa and Jacqueline Berracasa, all of LaJolla, California; 18 great-grandchildren, Shane, Jason, Brandon, Christopher, Cheyenne, James, Jesse, Emily, Elizabeth, Jaxson, Jacob, Levi, Jay, Katie, Drew, Brittney, Brent and Raeann; stepgrandchildren, Heather and Steven; two great-great-grandchildren; a step-great-great-grandchild; a sister, Helen V. Nesslein of St. Louis, Missouri; an aunt, Helen B. Lewis Brockman, age 104, of Manhattan, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 65 years, Helen; a daughter, Evelyn Carlson; a son-in-law, Russell Flitsch; two sisters and spouses, Ruth and Frederick Powles and Edna and Otto Rinderknecht; a great-granddaughter, Angela Flitsch; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Esther and Frank Niemeir, Ruth and John Nissen, Dorothy and Clinton Thomas, Millie and Fred Aurner and Margurette Musel; and a brother-in-law, Hershell Waddle
Born February 26, 1910, to Gary and Ida Mae Lewis Railsback, in Palo, Iowa, he married, Helen Dodge on October 15, 1933. She died November 6, 1998. Bud lived and farmed on the family farm. The farm has been in his family since 1843. He was a member of the Linn County Cattle Association. He loved horses and enjoyed riding until the age of 93.
Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
