Galen Robert Lowe, 69, of 1311 19th Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, November 19, 2006, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Cecil Ballard. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Norma; three loving stepchildren, Cindy (Kevin) Thumma of Cedar Rapids, Greg (Barbara) Campbell of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, and Tina Campbell of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren, Kevin, Alysia, Matt, Alex, Emily, Lydia, Joshua, Nicholas, Gregory and Sydney; two brothers, Erwin (Betty) Lowe of Stone City and Kenneth (Kay) Lowe of Springville; and a sister, Ruth Darrow of Muscatine.
Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Evelyn; and a granddaughter, Cara.
Galen was born February 26, 1937, the son of Clyde and Velma (Ketchum) Lowe, in Anamosa, Iowa. On January 10, 1971, he was united in marriage to Norma Jean Gregory. Galen retired from Iowa Manufacturing Company. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, the Izaak Walton League and the Machinist Union. Galen enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, fishing, boating and sharing his love of these things with his nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his caring nature, his love of the Andy Griffith Show and especially, his practical jokes.
