Gale Wisely, 89, of 609 27th Street N.E., died Sunday evening, January 2, 2005, in ManorCare Health Services, Cedar Rapids, due to complications of old age. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 6, 2005, at Cedar Hills Evangelical Free Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Randy Scheil. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Connie; a daughter, Rachel (Roy) DeWitt of Cedar Rapids; three sons, Clement (Stacey) Wisely of Cedar Rapids, Philip (Maria) Wisely of Iowa City and Andrew (Lynn) Wisely of Hewitt, Texas; and twelve grandchildren.
His parents; two sisters, Lucile Viall and Elinor Perrin; and two brothers, Everett and James Wisely, preceded him in death.
Born February 18, 1915, in Cedar Rapids, to Renwick and Millie (Miles) Wisely, he married Constance E. Krapf on June 21, 1952. For nearly four years, he served with the Army during World War II. Following graduation from Northwestern College in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he worked with American Sunday School Union in northern Minnesota for several years. Following his return to Cedar Rapids, he worked in construction and for the Cedar Rapids Community Schools. He was an active member of the Cedar Hills Evangelical Free Church. Gale loved to read, play chess and horseshoes and work crossword puzzles.
