Geneva G. McCallum, 84, of Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, died there, Thursday, April 5, 2007, following a long illness. Memorial Service: Noon, Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at St. Matthews Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Mark Osterhaus. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband of 58+ years, Gordon; her children, Stephanie Dirks (Eldon), of Des Moines, Iowa, Catherine McCallum (Tom Fouser) of Monrovia, California, Susan McCallum, David McCallum (Susan Marsden), both of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Duncan McCallum (Crissy Snow) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a brother, Ivan McBride (Barbara) of Chatham, Illinois; a sister, Beth Hall (Jim) of Chehalis, Washington; ten grandchildren, Jenny Coon, David and Julia Fouser, Anna, Sarah and Erica Dirks, Connor, Bailey, Alex and Claire McCallum; one great-grandchild, Clara Fouser; and her special friends, Patty and Jerry Cramblet of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bill Jr. and Gene McBride; a sister, Juanita Jans; and a son, Michael.
Geneva was born October 31, 1922, the daughter of Alta and William McBride, in Crivitz, Wisconsin. She grew up on a farm in Grundy County, Iowa and graduated from Dike High School in 1940. In 1942, she attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) and received her teaching certificate. Geneva taught school in Delhi and Vinton, before moving to Iowa City in 1947. There she met and married Gordon McCallum. They lived in Clear Lake before moving to Cedar Rapids in August, 1956. In 1967, Geneva received her BA from the University of Iowa. For 18 years, she taught at Arthur, Johnson and Madison Elementary Schools. Geneva was a member of the St. Matthew?s parish, St. Bernadette?s Circle and of the Rosary Society. She volunteered at Green Square Meals for 10 years.
Geneva was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Her loss is a very heavy blow for her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
