Fredrick “Rick” Gienapp, 66, of Monticello, Iowa, passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, October 22, 2016. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Urbana, Iowa. Visitation: 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 27, 2016, with the vigil starting at 4:00 p.m., at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, Iowa. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City, Iowa.
Rick was born October 2, 1950, in Manchester, Iowa to Donald “Toby” and Helen Gienapp. He attended Manchester High School prior to enlisting with the Marine Corps in 1968. Rick served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1972. He married Barbara Emmons on March 20, 1971, in Corona, California. They later divorced but remained close friends. Rick retired from Linn Coop in 2012.
He is survived by his mother, Helen Gienapp; former spouse, Barbara Babcock; daughter, Amy (Nick) Johnson; sons, Corey (Angie Keister) Gienapp and Brent Gienapp; sisters, Judy Morley, Jackie Strand, Jane (Joe) Buelna, Julie Brown; brother, Martin (Diane) Gienapp; grandchildren, Morgan, Haley, Abigail, Toby, and Nadalie.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Donald “Toby” Gienapp.
Rick enjoyed spending time with his family and being outdoors. He loved to camp, hunt, fish, and trap shoot. Rick also enjoyed his trips to Arizona.
