Frederick C. "Fred? Haley Sr., 82, of 391 Ben-Dov Drive, died Saturday, June 24, 2006, in his home following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, by Pastor T. Edwards Breed and Vicar Steven Zittergruen. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City, with military honors by American Legion Post 421. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion and one hour prior to service time at the church on Tuesday.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; three daughters, Christine (Richard) Eidemiller of Cedar Rapids, Sharon (Robert) Swehla of Watkins and Josephine (Robert) Aldridge of Queen City, Missouri; three sons, Allan (Roberta) Haley of Central City, Frederick "George? Haley Jr. and Matthew (Beth) Haley of Lancaster, Missouri; three sisters, Yvonne (Gordon) Mattice, Beverly (James) Evert and Frances (Lowell) Behning; and a brother, Kenneth Haley.
Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren, Karen and Julie Peyton, Jamie Harris, Chuck and Charlene Costello, A. J. Haley, Amy Lipke, Darrel and Clyde Nagel Barb Shumaker, Mallory, Daniel, Megan, and Maddie Haley; and many great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandchild, Michelle Daugherty; and two sisters, Mona Hillier and Geraldine Wessel.
Fred was born on August 24, 1923, in Independence to Allan and Geraldine (McDonald) Haley. On February 14, 1945, he was united in marriage to Shirley I. Slick.
He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. Fred farmed for ten years and then worked as a lumber yard project estimator for Great Planes, Wickes and Spahn and Rose lumber yards. Fred was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 421.
A memorial fund has been established in Fred?s memory.
