Fred C. Vileta, 83, of 1106 Hudson Street, Cedar Rapids, died Monday, August 6, 2007, at Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center, Iowa City, following a long illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 10, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Sheryll Untiedt. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Evelyn; four daughters, Marie Engvall of Cedar Rapids, Linda Korngegay (Bud) of Mondamin, Kathy Kos (Ronald) and Karen Vileta (Dennis), all of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Michael Engvall, Tanya Vileta (Carlos) and Troy Kos; two great-grandchildren, James Engvall and Trenten Vileta; and a sister-in-law, Luella Vileta of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Rick Engvall; two brothers, Richard and Leo; and a sister-in-law, Elda Vileta.

Fred was born June 13, 1924, the son of Charles and Barbara (Hruby) Vileta, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served with the United States Army during World War II as a rifleman with Company "C" 11th Infantry 5th Division on the front lines in the Battle of the Bulge. On June 13, 1952, Fred was united in marriage to Evelyn Wolfe in Cedar Rapids. A farmer, he also worked at Wilson Foods (Farmstead) for 32 ½ years, retiring in 1986.
