Fred E. Fistler, 64, of Walker, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at the Veterans Hospital, Iowa City. Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, Iowa. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at the funeral home. Burial at a later date at Walker Cemetery, Walker, Iowa. Please dress casual or in your favorite Harley shirt.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Fistler; children, Jeff (Beth Behrends) Fistler, and Jamie (Todd) Daman; grandchildren, Kaytlin Sweeney, Austin Fistler, Brooklyn Fistler, Madilyn Daman, and Raelyn Daman; siblings, Robert (Gerene) Fistler, Shirley Fistler, John (Carole) Fistler, and Jim (Judie) Fistler; many nieces and nephews; his two dogs, Scruffy, and Lola; and five cats, Black Jack, Smokey, Missy, Flash and Stormy.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Fred was born on December 14, 1951, in Albia, Iowa, but was raised in Manly, Iowa, son of Kenneth and Helen (High) Fistler. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Vietnam War. Fred was united in marriage to Deb Hendrickson on September 1973, to this union two children were born. They later divorced. Fred then married the love of his life, Mary Handke on December 2, 1994, in Oelwein, Iowa. He owned M & F Construction. Fred loved riding his Harley and enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing.
