Franklin W. King, 86, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Walker, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2017. Visitation: 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2017, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Walker United Methodist Church in Walker. Burial: Walker Cemetery, Walker, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Iva Jean King of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Susan (Kevin) Skolos of Kaukauna, Wisconsin; sons, Thomas (Rose) King of Quasqueton, Iowa and Wayne King of Lamont, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mrytle King; infant daughter, Mary Jane King; and his siblings Russell King, Evalyn Bickford and Elnora Hansen.
Franklin was born on September 6, 1930, in Brandon, Iowa, son of Thomas and Mrytle (Lawless) King. He attended Walker High School. Franklin served in the Army, during the Korean War. On July 24, 1954, Franklin and Iva Jean (Barnes) King were united in marriage, in Cedar Rapids. He worked as a machinist for Iowa Manufacturing and Cherry-Burrell Company. Franklin owned Kings Gulf Station in Center Point, Iowa and Quamaco Machine Shop in Quasqueton. He was a member of the Walker United Methodist Church in Walker and the American Legion Post #0376. Franklin enjoyed playing cards and horseshoes, loved his fishing, hunting and all of his family. He loved his church. He was an excellent father and husband.
