Franklin D. "Frank? DeShaw, 58, a resident of Anamosa, died Wednesday, December 24. 2003, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, of heart failure. Services: 2 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion by the Deacon Phil Saunders. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery in Toddville, with military rites by AmVets Post 37 and Wapsi American Legion Post 421.
Surviving are his loving wife, Mary; two daughters, Wanda (Emmett) DeShaw of Bondurant and Dawn (Jeromy) Johnson of Marion; a daughter-in-law, Dawn DeShaw of North Liberty; two sons, Bill (Michelle) Beshears of Marion and Casey DeShaw of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Betty DeShaw of Marion; two sisters, Judie (DeWayne) Leidigh and Mary Lou Evans, both of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Jerry DeShaw of McGregor, Minnesota and Raymond DeShaw of California; and mother and father-in-law, Junior and Bonnie Hutchcroft of Cedar Rapids.
Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, Nathan, Samantha, Jordan, Harli, Beau, Tierrah, Chantel, Shaelyne, Kaine, Brittani, Christina, Brienna, Chase, MaKaylee and Trévon; many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Darlene, his father, Franklin and his son, Frank.
Frank was born on August 30, 1945, in Anamosa, to Franklin and Betty (Oliphant) DeShaw. On April 25, 1963, he married Darlene Leidigh in Cedar Rapids. They had three children. She died in 1978. In 1979 he married Mary Hutchcroft of Cedar Rapids. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1967. Frank worked construction all his life. He worked for Dave Schmidt Construction for two years and as a superintendent for Bowker Mechanical for twelve years. In June 2000, Frank started his own grading and excavating business, DeShaw & Sons, and was still operating the business at the time of his death.
Frank was a hard-working man, very generous and caring. He loved his wife and family "more than his life.? He also loved old country music, fishing, gambling, Minnesota Vikings and partying with friends and family.
A memorial fund has been established in Frank?s memory.
