Frank C. Sopousek, 82, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, November 6, 2014, in his home. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 pm Sunday, November 9, 2014, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation, Cedar Rapids. Military Honors by American Legion 298. Graveside Service: 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 10, at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Mel Ramos and Rev. Terry Van Wyk.
Survivors include his daughters, Mary (John) Elliott, of Conyers, Georgia, Cathi (Randy) Havel and Lisa (Jeff Slechta) McAtee, both of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Patrick, Christopher, Ellen, Bobby, Jamie and Brianna; sister-in-law, Teresa Sopousek; nieces and nephews; and granddogs, Radar and Ivy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol; sister, Dorothy Kadlec; and brother, Milton Sopousek.
Frank was born November 13, 1931, the son of Edward and Mary (Blahnik) Sopousek, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A graduate from St. Wenceslaus High School, Frank joined the United States Air Force in 1950, serving in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He retired as Master Sergeant from the Air Force after serving 23 years.
Frank was united in marriage to Carol Watt on May 10, 1952, at St. Wenceslaus Rectory in Cedar Rapids. She died October 10, 2011. After returning from the service, Frank did various jobs. For the last several years, he worked for Murdoch Funeral Homes. He was a member of the American Legion Post 298 and VFW 788.
Frank was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Frank.
