A special thanks to the professionals at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Frank is survived by his four sons, Timothy Mark, Darrell Peter, Keith Michael and Scott Patrick, and a daughter, Samantha Rose, along with six grandchildren.
Frank was born October 11, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York. Frank absolutely loved New York and enjoyed telling stories about growing up there. He earned his Associate’s Degree in Nursing at New York Community College in 1966. Frank served his country with distinction during the Vietnam Era and rose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. While stationed in El Paso, Texas, he met his one and only true love, Mary Ruth Camp of Watertown, South Dakota, and they were married on January 12, 1968, the year he was also honorably discharged from the U.S. Army.
Frank was dedicated to lifelong learning, and attended several educational institutions including Buena Vista College, University of Texas and Loras College, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology. Frank passed his Nursing Boards earning him his Registered Nurse certification, and also nearly completed his education for a Master’s Degree through the University of Iowa. He was a voracious reader and it was not uncommon for him during his downtime to read both the Physicians’ Desk Reference as well as Gray’s Anatomy.
Frank had a long career in nursing, working at a number of well-known institutions such as Stanley Care Center/Xavier Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa, Coney Island Hospital and Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. In addition to serving as a nurse, Frank also worked as a nursing administrative supervisor. Upon moving to Iowa, Frank transitioned into teaching, serving as a Nursing Instructor at Kirkwood Community College, where he was widely loved by his students. Following his teaching career, he transitioned back into nursing and nursing administration roles at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center, Coralville, Iowa; Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion, Iowa and finally at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Frank retired in January of 2003.
Frank was also dedicated to never forgetting the lives of those who have been captured and held as prisoners of war, and was a supporter of various organizations dedicated to that cause.
Frank’s Estate is managed by his son and Executor, Keith.
