Francis W. "Frank? Stinger, 97, a resident of Hallmark Care Center in Mt. Vernon, left his family, Tuesday, September 16, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, from complications of surgery. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, September 19, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Mt. Vernon Cemetery.

He is survived by two daughters, Doris (Robert) Hatcher of Anamosa and Shirley LaBarge of Marion; a son, Howard (Dixie) Stinger of Cedar Rapids; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith; his sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Wayman Harbaugh; a son-in-law, Robert LaBarge; a granddaughter, Stephanie Stinger Oldfather; and a grandson, Michael Hatcher.

Francis was born March 12, 1906, in Marion, the son of Fred and Bertha (Ose) Stinger. He spent his childhood and young adult life on a farm at Volga, Iowa. He graduated from Volga High School. He married Edith Smith in January of 1930. They moved to a farm between Mt. Vernon and Springville. She died in January of 1966. Francis farmed his entire life, after retiring he moved to Springville.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
