Francis “Pete” Pirc, 80, of Earlville died at home Wednesday, July 28, 2010.



Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 2, 2010 at St. Joseph ’s Catholic Church in Earlville by Rev. Herbert Tegeler. Family will greet friends from 1:00 - 8:00 p.m., Sunday, August 1, 2010 at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home in Earlville, with a Military Memorial at 7:00 pm by Post 137 and a 8:00 pm Scripture Service. Burial will be in St. Joseph ’s Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Dyersville American Legion Post 137 and New Vienna VFW.



Francis was born August 29, 1929, the son of Michael and Myrtle (Cole) Pirc. Francis served with the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War from September 1951 to June 1953. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Rausch in Earlville on February 4, 1956. The couple farmed, retiring in 2002.



Francis was a member of the Dyersville American Legion Post 137 and the New Vienna VFW, a member of St. Joseph ’s Catholic Church. One of Francis’ greatest joys was playing cards with his grandchildren.



Francis is survived by his wife, Marilyn Pirc of Earlville; twelve children, Karen (Dean) Knepper, Mike (Denise) Pirc, Pat (Shirley) Pirc, Ron (Judy) Pirc, Russ Pirc (friend, Nadine Sgro), and Jim (Jan Pirc) all of Dyersville, Tim (Peggy) Pirc of Charlotte, NC, Sandy (Chad) Pereboom and Ken (Jenni) Pirc of Cedar Rapids, David Pirc of Minneapolis, MN, Ann (Dean) Jorgensen of Bennington, NE, and Amy (Kevin) Weber of Darlington, WI; 31 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 7 great step-grandchildren; siblings, Ralph Pirc of Marquette and Mary Bacon of New Hampton; brothers & sisters-in-law, Verna (Dennis) Welte, Linda (Kirk) Corbett, Francis (Joyce) Rausch, Leon (Carol) Rausch, Jerome (Jean) Rausch, Celester Rausch, and Loras Rausch.



Francis was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Myrtle Pirc; siblings, Gerald (Ruth) Pirc and Laura Pirc; parent in-law, Edmund and Marie Rausch; a sisters-in-law, Pat Pirc, Betty Rausch, and Linn Rausch; and a brother-in-law, Lawrence Bacon and a daughter in-law, Michelle Pirc.

A special thank you to the nurses and staff of Hospice of Comfort for their comforting care.
