Francis Marschall Mangold

Francis Marschall Mangold, 85, of Robins, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with visitation an hour prior. A private family inurnment will occur at Calvary Cemetery in Ryan, Iowa.

Francis was born on November 17, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Raymond and Blanche (McEnany) Mangold, and was the youngest of eight children. He graduated from St. Patrick’s Catholic High School and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962-1966. On November 13, 1969, he married Betty Dale Westerman in San Antonio, Texas. Afterward, he enjoyed a 30-year career doing body work on cars before retiring from Allen Motor Company.

He was a member of the American Legion in Ryan, the Knights of Columbus in Cedar Rapids, and All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. In his younger years, he also volunteered as a pack leader with Boy Scout Troop 100 in 1976.

He loved bowling and occasionally went fishing, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was also fond of playing bingo. With a passion for rebuilding and restoring classic cars, he found great joy in working with his hands. One of his favorite experiences was traveling across the U.S. with his son John’s gymnastics team.

He is survived by his children, Sherry Mangold (Alan Brink), David Mangold, John (Heidi) Mangold; grandchildren, Drew Mangold, Justin Mangold, Daren Mangold, Carter Mangold, Spenser Mangold; and great-grandson, Ryan Mangold Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; spouse Betty; brothers, Leon, John, James Sr., and Clair “Bud” Mangold; sisters, Joan Grissom, Patricia Duggan, and Maxine Stein; granddaughter, Amanda Davis; and grandson, Ryan Mangold.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
