Francis B. “Fritz” Johnson, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha: Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Bill Harnish. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Rose; his children, Lorilee Johnson of Chicago, Illinois, Jeannine (Robert) Malcom of Russell Springs, Kentucky, Glenn David Johnson of Cedar Rapids, and Dayle (Michael) Lambrecht of Harvest, Alabama; four grandchildren, Shannon Malcom, Aaron Malcom, Desirae Etheridge and Matthew Lambrecht; three great-grandchildren, Oliver, Noah and Marleigh; and two brothers, Glenn (Peggy) Johnson of San Antonio, Texas, and Donald (Hilda) Johnson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Dorothy Gudgel.
Francis was born October 19, 1919, the son of Glenn and Ivy (Brigden) Johnson, in Brookings, South Dakota. He served with the Army Air Corp during World War II. On November 17, 1948, Francis was united in marriage to Rose Wallin in Minneapolis, Minnesota. For 35 years, Francis worked for Rockwell Collins, retiring as a mechanical engineer.
