Francis Anthony Chihak, 53, of 5831 Shiloh Lane NE, died Tuesday, January 28, 2003. Services: 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 31, 2003, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hiawatha, by Father Neil Manternach. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2003, where a Vigil service will begin at 7:00 p.m., at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: St. Joseph?s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his children, Sheena, April, Rudy and Laura, all at home with their mother, Brenda Hack; his mother, Vincentia Goetz Chihak of Elma, Iowa; a brother, Peter Chihak and (Carmen Kinkade) of Cedar Rapids; five sisters, Jeanne (Harvey) Nelson and Ann (John) Kelly of Cedar Rapids, Donna Markakis of Wheeling, IL, Mary Jo (Gary) Ries of Elma, and Peggy (Steve) Beaston of Centralia, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rudolph Chihak.

Francis was born July 2, 1949, in Elma, Iowa, the son of Rudolph and Vincentia (Goetz) Chihak. He graduated from Elma I.C., in 1967, where he was class president and captain of the basketball team. He graduated from UNI in 1971. Fran taught, coached and held various jobs, most recently as a Realtor. Fran was an average golfer and highlighted his career by a hole-in-one in 1976, and a double eagle in 1986. His greatest joy has been his children and following their activities, including coaching and officiating them in various sports. Fran loved spending time with his family and numerous friends. He enjoyed all sports and was an avid Cardinals and Hawkeye Fan.
