Frances Irene "Fran" French (Stewart)
July 17, 1921 — January 31, 2012
Frances “Fran” I. French, 90, of Marion, died Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 2, 2012, at Springville Presbyterian Church, by Dr.Bobby Dickerson - Chaplain, St. Luke's Hospice. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion. Burial: Springville Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughters, Sherry Nebel of Cedar Rapids and Ricky Machula of Marion; her son, Ron (Irene) French of Roselle, IL; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; her brother, Leonard Stewart of Springville; and her special sister and brother, Eleanor and Dave Kelley of Springville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; her parents; two brothers, Loren and Galen Stewart; sister, Vera Touro; and her son-in-law, Jerry Nebel.
Fran was born July 17, 1921 in rural Linn Grove, the daughter of Merle and Edna (Martin) Stewart. She was raised in Linn Grove and graduated from Springville High School in 1939. Fran married Dale French on February 7, 1942, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Dale died February 10, 2001. Fran worked for Rockwell Collins for 25 years, retiring in 1983. She was a long time member of Springville Presbyterian Church, and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandma, and “grandma great”.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Fran’s memory.
