Frances “Alberta” Akers, 97, a resident of Linn Manor Care Center, Marion, formerly of Troy Mills, died Thursday, February 5, 2015, at the Ed and Joan Hemphill Inpatient Hospice Center of St. Luke’s, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, by Pastor Sheri Anderson. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2015, at the funeral home in Marion. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City.
Survivors include her son, Victor “Darrell” (Judy) Akers of Marion; granddaughter, Victoria (and special friend, Kyle); great-grandchildren, Alex, Jesse, Emily, Trystan, and Adilyn; and great-great-grandson, Marcus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Victor; and siblings Hazel, Marie, Frank, Pat, and Nettie.
Alberta was born November 24, 1917, in Freeborn, MN, the daughter of Earl and Mary (Mucha) McCann. She loved cooking, fishing, and gardening. Alberta loved her family and spending time with them. She never met a stranger.
