Forrest D. “Shack” Shackelford, 93, of Coggon, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017, at Living Center West, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City, conducted by Pastor Robert Heasty. The family will greet friends two hours prior to service at the funeral home. Burial: Coggon Cemetery, Coggon.

Shack was born May 17, 1923, to Truman Archie Shackelford and Etta Leah (Ossman) Shackelford. He graduated from Walker Public School system in 1942. On August 1, 1942, he was united in marriage to Eva Lou Price in Kahoka, Missouri. On October 6, 1948, their son Randall Lee Shackelford came into their lives completing their family.

In 1942, Shack started working at Wilson Packing House, and in 1950, Shack and Eva Lou opened Shacks Food Market in Coggon. Along with other jobs, he was also a milk carrier for the Coggon Creamery and later, 1963, worked at Collins Radio until he retired in 1985. In retirement, Shack enjoyed spending his time at his cabin fishing, playing cards, and growing and eating his own popcorn. Shack always had a humorous story to tell. His quick wit kept people smiling and laughing.

Shack was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy (Vietnam casualty, 1969); and his wife, Eva Lou in 2010.

He is survived by his brother Raymond of Cordova, Illinois; nieces, Connie (Jim) Eckermann of Cordova, Illinois and Pam (Terry) Barber of East Moline, Illionis; nephews and nieces, Ronald (Beverly) Porter of California, Rocky (Irene) Porter of California, Cheryl Jons (George, deceased) of Texas, Rick (Mona) Porter of Marion, Susan Porter of Center Point, Sally Smith (Joel, deceased) of Troy Mills, Russel (Penny) Porter of Alburnett, and Rodney (Diane) Porter of Bertram; many great and great-great nephews and nieces; and special God-daughter, Sue (Mike) Moses and family of Cedar Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in Shack’s memory.
