Forrest Luke Scanlan, 91, of Manchester died June 6, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA following a brief illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the Manchester United Methodist Church by Rev. Roger Henry. Family will greet friends at the church following the committal service. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Oakland Cemetery. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, is in charge of arrangements.
Forrest was born June 25, 1917 in Coffins Grove Township in Manchester, the son of William & Edith (Wells) Scanlan. Educated in Delaware County Schools, graduating in 1935. He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII from April 4, 1942 to September 6, 1945. On March 24, 1945 Forrest was united in marriage to Charline Ellison in Christ Church in New York City. He was a lifelong resident and farmer of Manchester.
Forrest was a faithful member of the Manchester United Methodist Church where he served as a lay ministry, in evangelism, and taught Sunday School. He also was active in Gideon Bible Society and Promise Keepers. Forrest was a proud member of the VFW Post 37 and AmVet Post 21. He enjoyed reading, was a Cubs fan, and loved to visit with family and friends.
Forrest is survived by his wife, Charline of 64 years; three children, Bill (Donna) Scanlan of Manchester, Harry Scanlan of Bristol, TN and Barbara (Kenneth) Feeney of Garrison; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Forrest was preceded in death by his parents, William & Edith Scanlan; one son, Forrest Edward Scanlan; and a sister, Anita Veith.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the Manchester United Methodist Church, 413 E. Butler Street, Manchester.
