Forrest Holveck, 84, of 1014 Maplewood Dr. NE, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at St. Luke?s Hospital, following an extended illness. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2004, at First Christian Church in Center Point by Rev. John Caughron. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Center Point Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mardean; a daughter, Carolyn; two sons, Michael (Jacalyn) and Randy (Jane); and two grandsons, Robert and James.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Opal Holm and Mildred Tillotson.
Forrest was born in Zearing, Iowa on October 22, 1919, the son of Charles and Ilo (Hoberland) Holveck. He joined the army in 1942, and served in World War II with the Third Army under Patton. In 1945, he married Mardean Joyce and after two semesters at Iowa State University he relocated to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He worked at Allen Motor Co., Cedar Rapids Water Works and the City Assessors Office before being appointed Linn County Assessor in 1961, a position he held until his retirement in 1985.
Forrest was past president of Iowa State Association of Assessors and a long term member of the International Assoc. of Assessing Officers. He was a Cub Scout leader, a member of Mizpah Masonic Lodge, Cedar Rapids High Twelve Club, El Kahir Shrine and American Legion Hanford Post No. 5. He was active in numerous civic committees and was a member First Christian Church in Center Point, serving as a deacon and member of the choir for five years.
He was what defined the greatest generation. A memorial fund has been established.
