Ford Henry Symonds, 73, of 4530 Dunn Ave., died Friday, April 09, 2004, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, after an accident in his home. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Richard Marceau. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial: Shiloh Cemetery in Hiawatha with military rites by American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; his children, Jean M. Petrick of Cedar Rapids, Terri Jo Sparks and husband Jim of Springville, Jon T. Symonds and wife Laurie of Marion and Glenn "Waldo? Symonds and wife Jenny of Marion; his step-children, Judith F. Large and husband Jim of Bemidji, Minnesota, James J. Siedschlag of Slayton, Minnesota, Julie M. Hayes and husband Richard of Sabin, Minnesota, Samuel L. Siedschlag of Fargo, North Dakota, Koren R. Jones and husband Phil of Marion and Kevin A. Siedschlag of Marion; two sisters, Virginia and Mariann of Crookston, Minnesota; and twenty-seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a wife, Marlene; a brother, Robert; and an infant granddaughter, Courtney Anne Symonds.
Ford was born July 15, 1930, the son of Robert Ford and Gerturde (Mackowick) Symonds, in Polk county, Minnesota. He married Marlene Konze on September 4, 1964. She died February 7, 1987. He then married Karen Gullingsrud on July 16, 1989 in Mahnomen, Minnesota. Ford served with the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a member of a B-26 bomber flight crew. He played professional hockey. Ford was in the automotive sales industry for over fifty years in the Cedar Rapids and Marion areas. He enjoyed playing euchre at the legion.
