Floyd H. Thacher, Jr. “Thach”, 84, of Manchester died January 20, 2009 in Portland, Oregon following a sudden illness.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 26, 2009 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Manchester by Rev. Dr. Doug Williams. Family will greet friends from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 25th at the funeral home and one hour before services on Monday.
Floyd was born March 6, 1924, in Manchester, the son of Floyd Harry Sr. and Mildred Manerva (Pierce) Thacher. Following graduation from Manchester High School in 1942, he enlisted in the Navy. Floyd served during WWII in the South Pacific on the USS Young DD580 Destroyer. After discharge from the service on January 21, 1946, he returned to Manchester and farmed. On June 1, 1946, Floyd was united in marriage to Vera Cliftine Ryan in Kansas. Floyd also worked as a supervisor for Henderson Manufacturing for 17 years retiring in 1987.
Floyd was a member of the Edgewood American Legion Post 512, the Edgewood Masonic Lodge and the Manchester United Methodist Church.
Floyd is survived by one son, Dr. Stephen (Pamela) Thacher of Lamont; three grandchildren, Brett, Brooke and Wendy Thacher; one brother, Donald L (Elaine) Thacher of New Mexico; two sisters, Naida Schaefer of New Mexico, and Verna Fergesen of Manchester.
Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Thacher in 2006; his parents, Floyd and Mildred Thacher; two brothers-in-laws, Walt Schaefer and Frank Fergesen.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Floyd’s honor.
