Floyd “Al” Long, 60, of Bertram, passed away Monday, December 30, 2013, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. The family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Dixie; son, Josh (Karen); two grandchildren, Sawyer Allen and Colin Edward; daughter, Jody Seeley; father, Floyd (Betty) Long; three brothers, Jeff (Dixie) Long, Kevin (Candy) Long and Steve (Denise) Long; special nephew, Tony Sadlon; and his favorite cat, Sid.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace.
Al was born September 17, 1953, the son of Floyd and Grace (Hawley) Long in Cedar Rapids. On March 12, 1977, he was united in marriage with Dixie Sadlon in Bertram. Al served in the U.S. Army Reserve. Through the years, he worked at Rockwell Collins, Cedar Rapids Inc., Clipper Windpower, and Barnes Manufacturing.
Al was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bertram and Iowa Traditional Bow Hunter’s Society. He was passionate about the art of traditional archery and enjoyed not only shooting the bow but making and teaching it as well. Al was a nature enthusiast enjoying many aspects including hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors with friends and family. He was a talented woodworker whose generosity was felt by his church, family, and friends.
