Floyd L. Baker, 91, a resident of Bickford Cottage in Marion, died Sunday, November 7, 2004, at Bickford Cottage, from complications of old age. Services: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 11, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Dick Ernst. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Private Burial: Strawberry Point Cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Robert Baker of Cedar Rapids and a granddaughter, Kimberly (Jason) Stanek of Ames.
Floyd was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Viola; four brothers, Rex, Clifford, Harold and Raymond; a sister, Mildred Biando; and his daughter-in-law, Colette.
Floyd was born September 23, 1913, in Junction City, Kansas, to parents Jesse and Laura (Knapp) Baker. Floyd moved to California in 1932 and married Viola Heiden in Los Angeles in 1937. They lived in California until 1980 when he and Viola moved to Springdale, Arkansas. They moved to Marion in 1988. Floyd was an electrician until his retirement in 1975, working at a variety of jobs ranging from residential wiring to oilfield and hydroelectric projects.
Floyd will always be remembered by his family and friends for his sense of humor, his writings of prose, his friendly spirit and smile and his generosity. He was nicknamed "Candyman? for his many gifts of candy to friends.
