Florence Miska, 99, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Swisher, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. The family will greet friends Saturday, February 27, 2016, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Memorial Service will start at 11:30 at the funeral home by Rev. Bill Warhover. Inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, following the service.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy Langhurst of Springville; son, Dr. Glen (Hanne) Miska of Cedar Rapids; son-in-law, Dr. Erling (Barbara) Larson of Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Kristen (Brett) Cimorelli, Kathy Nji, Jim (Terry) Langhurst, Mike (Sarah) Langhurst, David (Vildana Tinjie) Langhurst; great-grandchildren, Akwi (Chris Beusing) Nji, Afor (Rodolfo) Chavez, Tom (Jenna) Langhurst, Melissa (Ethan) Gucfa, Mikayla Langhurst, Luke Langhurst; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, James Bridge and Wesley Miska; daughter, Mary Miska-Larson; son-in-law, David Langhurst Sr.; granddaughter, Susan Harries; brother, Lorren Burr; and sister, Zilpha Kirk.
Florence was born November 9, 1916, to Glenn and Lillian (Holdeman) Burr in West Liberty, Iowa. After graduating from Iowa City High School, she attended Business College. Florence was a bookkeeper for Mueller Lumber Company in Moline, Illinois. She married Wesley Miska on March 25, 1948, in Iowa City. They moved to Cedar Rapids and together they owned and operated Miska Brothers Oil Company and Miska Auto Supply Company. Florence was a member of Christ Church Presbyterian, P.E.O. Sisters, and the Cedar Rapids Horsemen’s Club. She loved crossword puzzles, reading, collecting stamps, coins, and history books. Florence and her husband also enjoyed traveling, showing horses, and going antiquing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy or a charity of the donor’s choice.
