Florence Kathryn Marak, 85, a resident of Anamosa Care Center, formerly of Marion, died there Sunday, April 11, 2004, following an extended illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Burial: 2:00 p.m.Wednesday at Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, where a vigil service will be at 7 p.m.

Florence is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Marak of Mesa, Arizona; three granddaughters, Crystal (Carl) Russell and Jill Thoma of Cedar Rapids and Laura (Bob) Buschardt of Mesa, Arizona; five great-grandchildren, Destiny Thoma, Paul Evans, Jr. and Kali Thoma of Cedar Rapids and Rogena and Roberta Thoma of Mesa Arizona; a brother, Ray (Bertha) Finn; three sisters, Mary Lou (Frank) McNamara, Maxine (Ed) Brady and Maldean Finn all of Anamosa; two sisters-in-law, Irene Finn and Kay Finn both of Anamosa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George J. Marak, on July 16, 1987; an infant son, Stanley George Marak; and three brothers, Bill, Merlin and Tom Finn.

Florence was born on September 22, 1918, to George and Laura (Kelly) Finn in Temple Hill, Iowa. She graduated from the Anamosa High School with the class of 1936 and then taught at country schools for three years. On August 23, 1939, she was married to George J. Marak at Anamosa, Iowa. They farmed near Marion until 1980 when they retired and moved to Marion.

Florence was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. She was very active in her political party for many years.
