Florence I. Claflin, 85, of the Westridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died there Tuesday, July 8, 2008, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 14, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, July 13, 2008, at the funeral home. Burial: Fairfax Cemetery, Fairfax.
Survivors include her sons, James (Ruth) Claflin of West Hills, California and John (Sandy) Claflin of Lexington, Kentucky; grandchildren, Sheri (Jamie Forsyth) Claflin and Carey (Jamie) Buresh of Cedar Rapids; and great grandchild, Tanner James Buresh.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; sisters, Eva and Mary; and brother, Henry.
Florence was born August 26, 1922, in Grays, South Carolina, the daughter of Joseph and Carrie (Pope) Cope. On January 10, 1947, she was united in marriage to James Claflin in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He died August 7, 2006. Florence and James met after WWII. James was from Fairfax and they met while he was stationed at Paris Island in 1946. Florence was employed by Wilson’s Meat Packing Company.
Florence enjoyed gardening, fishing and the outdoors as well as her home.
