Florence A. Auen, 88, of Independence, formerly of Rowley, died Monday, January 31, 2011, at West Village Care Center, Independence. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 4 at the funeral home. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills.
Survivors include two daughters, Karla Auen and Betty (Keith) Brown, both of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; three great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Karl; son, Larry; two infant daughters, Darla Joan and Bessie Pearl Auen; a great-grandson, Ryder Martin Harnish; five sisters; and two brothers.
Florence was born April 8, 1922, the daughter of Charles and Bertha (Taylor) Price at Sodtown near Coggon, Iowa. She attended Spring Grove schools and helped on the family farm. On October 6, 1944, she was united in marriage to Karl Auen at Quasqueton, Iowa. Together they farmed in the Walker, Troy Mills and Rowley areas. Florence moved to Independence after Karl died in July of 1991.
Florence loved to go fishing, tending to her gardens and baking, where she was famous for her pies and noodles. She also was active in her churches.
