Flora A. Bailey, 84, a resident of Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion, Iowa, died Saturday, November 24, 2007 at the care center following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 30, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Marion, Iowa, by Rev. Randy Bobzien. Friends may call from 4 ?" 8 p.m., Thursday, November 29, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, Iowa. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, Iowa.
Survivors include her children, Don (Jill) Bailey of St. Louis, Missouri; Sam (Marilyn) Bailey Jr., of Marion; Brenda (Terry) Tuttrup of Waseca, Minnesota; Rodger (former daughter-in-law, Julia) Bailey of Loveland, Colorado; Carol (Doug) Donahue of Loveland, Colorado; and Linda Boone (Rich Konen) of DesMoines, Iowa; and two brothers, Gilbert (Geneva) von Ahsen and Virgil (Barbara) von Ahsen.
Other survivors include twelve grandchildren, Matt Tuttrup, Andy Bailey, Meg Lucero, Zach Bailey, Carlee Tumilty, Ben Bailey, Cassie Boone, Rebecca Donahue, Emily Donahue, Calvin Bailey, Trevor Donahue and Taylor Bailey; and seven great-grandchildren, Brenna Tuttrup, Brandon Tuttrup, Madilyn Tumilty, Mackenzie Tumilty, Charlie Luccero, Sofia Lucero, and Elyse Bailey and numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam; her parents; two sisters, Erva Schwarting, and Gladys Maas; three brothers, Orville, Wayne, and Loren von Ahsen.
Flora was born January 11, 1923, the daughter of William and Anna (Newkirk) von Ahsen, in York Township, Williamsburg, Iowa. She married Sam L. Bailey, Sr., on February 4, 1945, in Williamsburg, Iowa. He died on April 27, 2004. Flora was a cook for Marion Independent Schools for over 20 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Marion. She loved to cook and bake. During WWII, she was a riveter in California on Liberty ships. As a mother and grandmother, she was always there when we needed her for illness, advice and cookies.
