MRS. FEDORA USOVSKY, 91, of Oak Village Apartments, Marion, Iowa, passed away, Monday, May 21, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center, surrounded by her family and friends. Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2007, at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 501 A Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, with Father Cyprian Sas officiating. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. (Wednesday), at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, where a Trisagion Service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include three daughters; Dorothy (Bobbie) Walker of Blakesburg, Iowa, Olga (Thomas) Flaming of Marion, Iowa, and Anna (Paul) Straub of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a stepson, Victor (Ruby) Usovsky of Tipton, Iowa; and a daughter-in-law, Rae Usovsky of Cedar Rapids. Fedora took great pride and joy in her 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and six sisters, all of Belarus, Russia; her husband, Nikita; her son, Jack Usovsky; two stepsons, Gregory and Wassily Usovsky; a granddaughter-in-law; and a great-granddaughter.
Fedora was born September 11, 1915, the daughter of Philip and Patricia Maslinova, in the small village of Hgorky in the Republic of Belarus. In 1941, she was united in marriage to Nikita Usovsky. He died January 15, 1955. For over 50 years, Fedora was a member of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in which she cherished the freedom to believe in God. In 1988, Fedora made her one and only trip to Belarus for an emotional reunion with her family. She enjoyed the smell of lilacs in the spring and growing peonies. Besides having a wonderful sense of humor, she also enjoyed quilting and crocheting.
