Fannie Wendling, 97, of Manchester, Iowa, died Monday, February 20, 2006 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, following a lengthy illness.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2006 at First Lutheran Church in Manchester by Rev. Harlan Kaden. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester, and for an hour before services Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.

Fannie was born on December 4, 1908, in Delaware County, the daughter of George W. & Sarah E. "Stella? (Coonrod) Whitman. She attended Manchester High School and helped on the family farm. On September 24, 1929, Fannie was united in marriage to Emil F. Wendling at Peace Lutheran Church in Ryan. The couple farmed near Coffins Grove before moving to the Lamont area. In 1946, they moved to a farm south of Manchester. Emil died May 11, 1955. Fannie then moved to her acreage on West Acers Street in Manchester where where she raised livestock and crops and performed janitorial services for private homes, local businesses and the First Lutheran Church. In October, 2004, failing health required Fannie to move to the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point. In March of 2005, she moved to the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.

Fannie enjoyed being outdoors, doing her yard and farm work. She had a "green thumb? for flower gardening. Fannie loved her farm animals and her pets.

Fannie is survived by her children, Donald (Janet) Wendling and Joyce (Victor) Ross, both of Manchester and Francis "Frank? (Diane) Wendling of Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter-in-law, Marlene Wendling of Manchester; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.

Fannie was preceded in death by her parents, George & Stella Whitman; her husband, Emil F. Wendling; a son, Richard Wendling; grandson, Emil L. Wendling; great-grandson, Lucas Badtram; a brother, Hubert Whitman; and a sister, Berniece Turner.
