Everett E. "Gene? Muenzenmeyer, 58, of 1645 13th Street, NW, Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, August 2, 2005, in his home, following a long courageous battle with cancer. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Chaplain Christine Wagner-Hecht. The family will greet friends from 9:30 until service time on Friday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Carol; four sons, Mark Muenzenmeyer, Brent (Patty) Muenzenmeyer, both of Cedar Rapids, Brian (Shannon) Muenzenmeyer of Richmond Hill, Georgia, and Robby Spencer of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Carrie Spencer of Shellsburg; 10 grandchildren, Brittany Gail, Brianna, Blake, Brooke, Brittany, Ruthann, Chase, Hailey, Nathan and Logan; a brother, Don (Kathy) Muenzenmeyer of Marshalltown; two sisters, Kay (Terry) Gill of Albion and Donna (Dave) Oliphant of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gene was born March 4, 1947, the son of William and Helen Milligan Muenzenmeyer, in Fairfield, Iowa. A 1965 graduate of Pekin High School of Packwood, Iowa, and a 1967 graduate from Iowa Technical Education Center of Ottumwa, Iowa, he began his career with Collins Radio from 1967 to 1970. Gene then became a Cedar Rapids Police Officer from 1970 to 1976. For 18 years, he became a truck driver for Churchill Trucklines, Inc. and then as a driver trainer for Fox Midwest Trucking in Greenbay, Wisconsin, for 7 years, prior to his illness.

The family would like to express their thanks for the support and excellent care from friends, relatives, the staff at Oncology Associates and Mercy Medical Center, and especially, Dr. Keith Wright.

A memorial fund has been established in memory of Gene.
