Evelyn M. Wendt

Evelyn M. Wendt, 86, of 1030 Memorial Drive, died Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 14, 2004, at United Parish Church in Coggon by Rev. Wil Dilsaver. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Ryan. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Central City.
Survivors are one son, Ronald (Millie) of Cedar Rapids; one grandson, Brian, of Rochester, New York; one granddaughter, Stacy Karam (Christian) of Fairfax; and one brother, Warren J. "Buck? Caldwell (Jean) of Coggon. Also surviving are one nephew, Stanley Caldwell (Sherry) of Steamboat Rock; one niece Lynette Caldwell of Denver, Colorado; and a half-brother, David Caldwell of Boise, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a cousin, Buddy Caldwell, who made his home with Evelyn?s family.
Evelyn was born July 19, 1918, at Coggon, the daughter of Sam and Rena (White) Caldwell. She received her education in the Coggon School and graduated from Coggon High School in 1935. She was baptized in, and became a member of the Coggon Christian Church at the age of twelve and was a faithful and active member, helping to plan special services and playing the organ for over thirty years.
Evelyn was married to Elmer Wendt of Ryan, in 1941, to this union was born one son, Ronald, in 1944. After they retired, they moved to Monticello, where they lived until Elmer?s death in 1992, and then Evelyn moved to Cedar Rapids.
Evelyn was very skilled in needle work and was an excellent cook. She worked at the Grocery Store and Post Office in Coggon for many years.
