Evelyn M. Swestka, 92, of Manchester, formerly of Monona, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester following a lengthy illness.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2005 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester by Rev. Henry Huber. Friends may call from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester with a Scripture service at 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Graveside committal services will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick?s Cemetery in Monona.
Evelyn was born February 14, 1913 in rural Spillville, the daughter of Adolph A. and Wilhemina H. (Herald) Mikesh. She graduated from Calmar High School in 1931 then attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette. Evelyn taught country school near Calmar for three years before she became a homemaker. On September 1, 1936 Evelyn was united in marriage to Dr. Leonard W. Swestka in Spillville.
Evelyn was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan since before Nile Kinnick?s time. Evelyn was a fisherman by marriage and enjoyed baking kolaches.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Elaine (Bill) Ashline of St. Petersburg, Florida, Eunice (Duane) Sill of Manchester, Leonard (Gloria) Swestka of Oconomowac, Wisconsin, and Aaron Swestka of Minneapolis, Minnesota; fifteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph & Wilhemina Mikesh; her husband, Leonard Swestka in 1980; a daughter, Yvonne Hansen; and three sisters, Mae Kittlesby, Genevieve Mikesh and Loretta Kalishek.
