Evelyn C. Smith, 25, of 2016 K Street S.W., Cedar Rapids, died Monday, November 29, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, following a long illness. Services: 12:00 p.m., Saturday, December 4, 2004, at New Jerusalem Church of God In Christ, by Pastor Hurley Bassett, Jr. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m., Friday, December 3, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her parents, Eddie D. (Shawn) Smith of Waterloo and Chris (Bob) Synacek of Cedar Rapids; her sisters, Joi Smith of Cedar Rapids, Emerald Smith of Cedar Falls and Starlet Smith of Cedar Rapids; maternal grandmother, Nola Brown-Nash of Sallis, Mississippi; paternal grandmother, Ruth Smith of Waterloo; a special nephew, Trey Smith-Thomas; a special niece, Denasia Smith-Thomas; and a host of aunts, uncles and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Roosevelt Brown and Ludie Smith; an aunt, Gearlean Smith; and two uncles, Joe Louis Brown and Joseph Brown.
Evelyn was born December 24, 1978, in Iowa City. She attended Washington High School, UNI and then worked in telemarketing for Access Direct. Evelyn was a member of New Jerusalem Church of God In Christ and enjoyed various music, including singing, playing the drums and keyboard. She was a very generous and giving person who always had an open heart. Evelyn always had a motherly touch, especially with her niece and nephew, Trey and Denasia. She will be greatly missed.
Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in memory of Evelyn c/o Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 520 Wilson Avenue S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404.
