Evelyn M. Day, 87, of ManorCare Health Services, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, March 4, 2004, in the care center, with dementia. Services: 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 8, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev.Dave Higdon. Friends may call from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews, including her niece, Juanita Norman and husband Harry who lovingly cared for Evelyn and went to the care center and fed her nearly daily the last 5 ? years without fail since October 20, 1998.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; three brothers, William, Clifford and Robert; and a sister, Helen.
Evelyn was born March 6, 1916, the daughter of Robert and Dora (Carpenter) Olmstead, in Dysart, Iowa. On August 19, 1934, she married Ralph Day in the beautiful Ellis Park Rose Garden in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He died January 20, 1999. Evelyn and Ralph lived in California over 50 years before coming back to Cedar Rapids, where they would have someone to look after them as they had no children.
