Evelyn Louise (Miller) Lyon, 87, of 5769 Sanden Rd. NE, died Wednesday, December 14, 2005, at St. Luke?s Hospital, following a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Gary Sneller with a luncheon following at Cedar Christian Church in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Shiloh Cemetery, Hiawatha.
Survivors include her husband, Dean; her daughter, Deanna (Darrell) Sanden of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Dawn (Doug) Cook of Cedar Rapids, Sherry (Steve) Sanden Will of Rochester, Minnesota, Douglas (Laurie) Sanden of Cedar Rapids and Michael (Tracy) Sanden of Cedar Rapids; and six great-grandchildren, Adam, Lucas, Sarah and Leah Will, Melinda Sanden and Ashley Springer.
Also surviving are two sisters, LaVonne Spicer of Omro, Wisconsin and Leila Brennaman of Shellsburg; a brother, Richard (Elda) Miller of Cedar Rapids; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Miller of Cedar Rapids, Ethel Miller of Cedar Rapids and Dorothy Thomas of Palo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, LaVerne, Robert and Donald; and a sister, Doris.
Evelyn was born May 4, 1918, the daughter of Eugene and Veva (Hammond) Miller near Brandon, Iowa, the oldest of eight children. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1936. On September 20, 1939, she married Dean I. Lyon in Center Point. Evelyn worked for Rockwell Collins for fifteen years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of Cedar Christian Church for almost sixty years and was past president of the Democratic Women?s Club. Evelyn volunteered at St. Luke?s Hospital Auxiliary and Flower Stall for many years.
For the last fifteen years Evelyn wintered in Mesa, Arizona with her husband. She enjoyed crocheting, making crafts, photography and sending e-mail.
A memorial fund has been established in Evelyn?s memory.
