Evalena Irene Sands, 95, of Central City, died Tuesday, October 14, 2008. Services: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 18, 2008, at United Church of Christ, Central City, by Rev. Jonna Jensen. The family will greet friends from 5 - 7 p.m., Friday, October 17, 2008 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City.
Survivors include her children, Dave Sands of Monticello, Keith (Christine) Sands of Cedar Rapids, and Mardell (Brian) Schultz of Wheatland, Missouri; 4 grandchildren, Dan Sands, Will (Michelle) Schultz, Kelly (Roger) Smith, and Elizabeth (Blake) Farmer; 7 great-grandchildren, plus one on the way; and 2 sisters, Myrtle Brooks of Belle Plaine, Iowa, and Marjorie Lacy of Idaho.
She was preceded in death by twin brothers, Ivan and Ival Bowen; 1 sister, Dorothy Welborne, and a daughter-in-law, Wendy (Hearn) Sands.
Evalena was born December 27, 1912, the daughter of Clark and Orra Bowen, in Aurora, Iowa. She married Delmar E. Sands on February 19, 1938. He died March 2, 1988. Evalena was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Central City.
A memorial fund has been established in Evalena’s memory.
